What is your vision?

What would you truly love to be, do or have in this world?  There is absolutely nothing that we cannot do.  We are all here to live our life's purpose.  Whatever you choose it to be.

If you are not happy with your current job or do not feel you are living your mission then now is the time to ask yourself what you would absolutely love to do in life.  If you aren't sure then that means you have simply not asked yourself.  Deep down inside everyone knows what they want in life.  We just need to ask.  Many times people say they don't know, but it is really just fear of failure or judgement from others that is holding them back.

Get clear with yourself.  Sit down with a piece of paper and write down every single thing you are grateful for currently until you reach a state of love and gratitude for what is and where you currently are in life.  Next write down what you would love to do.   It's that simple!

Now that you know what you would love to do, focus on the end result.  Don't worry about the details.  That will come to you.  Keep your eye on the vision and watch as your life unfolds exactly as you want it to.

Every vision starts as a thought, gains momentum as a feeling and grows everytime you share it with others.  To help you on your way, post your vision here on our blog for others to see!

Love & Gratitude,

3 weeks to “Tri”

So, my pal Marcy has me convinced that I can complete one of my lifelong goals and check it off my list--to complete a triathlon.  While it was never a question in my mind that I could do it, I had always pictured a rigorous training schedule of 8 to 12 weeks and some trainer named Sgt. (insert incredibly fit, loud, whistle-carrying male name here) pushing me to do my personal best.  That’s when I find out the race is in 3 ½ weeks.

Granted, it’s not like I am sitting around glued to the soaps and consuming copious amounts of bon-bons all day, but I am not in what I would call peak performance shape either.  Add to that a 10-month old spark plug with endless amounts of energy and having to create ways to train with him in tow and you can see my obvious dilemma.

Nevertheless, training “schedule” or not, I have committed myself and there is no backing out now.  (That is, of course, unless I happen to sprain my ankle or something…hmmm ;)  I figure, at this point, as long as I am getting some training in and go into the race with the idea that completion is an honorable accomplishment, I have nothing to lose (albeit, I could very well lose the race, but that’s not really the point).  So, it is with humility, apprehension, and excitement that I am going to “tri”.  And with that, I am off to the pool!

Love and Gratitude~

Is All Food Created Equal?
photo

So…having recently watched the documentary “The Future of Food” and then in speaking with a woman who runs a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, I began to wonder if other people thought the same thing I did; Is food the same across the board?  The answer is definitively, no.

While I would like to think that I could go get an apple at the store and then pick an apple from a tree at my local organic orchard and have them be the same, it just isn’t so.  The apple I pick up at the store has first (possibly) been grown from a genetically modified seed (meaning it originated in a Petri dish), then sprayed with harmful pesticides, then picked before it has time to ripen, then dipped in wax to preserve it and make it shiny, and trucked to my local supermarket from across the country or even flown in from another country!  My local organic orchard has likely saved seeds, allowed nature to take its course (with some nurturing; of course), plucked the apple once it has ripened, and handed it to me directly.  So, in this case, an apple is not just an apple.

So, why do we care?  What is the real difference?  Well, I have to believe that the rising rates of obesity, cancers, heart disease, diabetes, and everything else are most definitely affected by our “industrialization” of food.  The worst part about all this is, currently, I can’t even make a decision based upon the food labels in the supermarket if I want to.  What I mean by that is, if I decide not to eat GMO foods or only foods organically grown, the U.S. government does not require proper labeling for me to determine what I can or cannot eat.  GMO foods are in many of our products (and do not require labeling), and USDA “organic” labeling now only requires a product to contain 70% organic ingredients to put the word “organic” on the label.

Beware when you go out to eat also.  The food that you order at your neighborhood chain restaurant may not be what you think.  The food is pre-packaged and sent around the country and once you order it, it is taken out of the bag and heated.  That’s right, you might as well pick up a frozen TV dinner on the way home because there is not much difference!

Fortunately, there is still a way to ensure you are consuming real food that has been grown organically.  Buying local produce from small organic-practicing, family farmers is the way to go.  Not only are you voting with your pocketbook, but you are feeding your family quality nutritional products.  (And this blogger won’t even get into the rest of the politics and how the current system affects the demand for gasoline in this country!)

I could literally write a book on the subject of the food industry…hmm ;)  For now, I’ll say READ YOUR LABELS!!  If it is not food, don’t eat it (or buy it, for that matter!)

Weight, Baby!!!
photo

I have to admit that my well-read brain felt completely in the dark once I found out I was pregnant.  In fact, up until I gave birth, I thought I would give myself 3-6 months to get rid of the baby weight and be totally back to normal.  I also wholeheartedly believed that within a few weeks of having the baby that my shape would just come right back.  HA!!!  It has been 6 months now and while I have lost the majority of the baby weight, I still look in the mirror and wonder who I is looking back at me.  My shape is definitely not "back to normal", that's for sure.

It never occurred to me just how challenging (albeit daunting) a task it can be to get back in shape while caring for an infant who demands absolutely all of your time and energy.

I have had this discussion in Mommy and Me classes and I know that many women feel pressure to get down to their pre-pregnancy weight as quickly as possible.  I know that in those first few months, new moms may feel as if they have to have the baby with them whenever they are in public, as they feel it will justify their extra poundage.  I completely understand the desire to hibernate until you can at least get out of the maternity clothes and put on something that actually makes you feel decent.  I can't tell you how much I can commiserate with all new moms out there!

As a new mom (and one who is staring her 10-year high school reunion in the face), I would like to let new moms know that it is ok.  The weight will come off as long as you make sure to intake good, healthy calories, and make an effort to exercise (dance, walk, stand and bounce, etc.) either with or without your baby at least 30 minutes a day.  Anyone who has ever been a mom (or been around a new mom) understands your challenge and anyone who hasn't doesn't really matter.  Keep your chin up and know that regardless of the pounds you need to lose, there are 5 or 10 pounds you'll want to hang on to forever...and when they smile back at you, you'll know that they are worth it!

Perfect Health
Transformation occurs only when we can hold the thought and vision of what we truly desire.  So many people want to lose weight, stop drinking, quit smoking.  However, the very thing they are repelling is continually attracted over and over again.  Saying "No" to that extra serving is the same as saying "Yes."  As long as the action has a perceived benefit, then taking it away will always be difficult and doing it will be a reward for good behavior.  Instead we need to focus on what we do want.  Only then can we attract the people, places and circumstances to allow us to make the transformation we are seeking.

To attract perfect health we must wish it to be so.  You can eat the right foods and get enough rest and exercise but still have poor health unless the mind is on board.  Our thoughts create our realities and set in motion a cascade of physiological reactions within our bodies.  Negative emotions create a stress response that builds ourselves sick.  Positive emotions and affirmations have the opposite effect.  Start with your mind.  Focus on what you want.  And watch as you life transforms.
